Plank Unit Chair
Furniture2026

Plank Unit Chair is built around a specific set of limitations. It uses readily available dimensional lumber and common fasteners. It intentionally avoids glue, complex joinery, and rip cuts, and is designed to be achievable, with some patience, through straightforward operations with commonly available tools. It can be readily disassembled into flat-packable components for transport or storage.

The design and construction plans were developed as part of Wild.Form: Recipes for Domestic Survival, an exhibition, publication, and workshop series conceived by Sophie Yan & Valeria de Jongh as a direct response to "fast furniture" and the disposable culture it creates. Wild.Form continues a long legacy of democratic design, rooted in access, autonomy, and empowerment.
